We’re an independent publishing house based in Chennai, built on the ideals that once were the bedrock of great publishing: intellectual diversity, fearlessness and editorial finesse. While our obsessions traverse multiple genres, our love remains precise in its passion for literary fiction, serious non-fiction, and a willingness to stray when our hearts are taken.

Since our inception in 2023, Fat Needle’s purpose has been fourfold: (1) To feature fresh work that challenges the aesthetic and political status quo; (2) To provide a multilingual platform for prominent and unheralded voices; (3) To foster a cosmopolitan perspective through an emphasis on translations; (4) To give a book its most resplendent form.

In the current climate, when books are losing the war for our attention in the face of flashier media formats, publishers are churning out mediocrity en masse, and shallow trendiness and brazen commercial aspirations have rendered Literature impotent — we’re holding the fort against this sordid backdrop by publishing books that can last the test of time. We don’t pander to any ideological prejudices or pieties; rather, our interest is in writing that stirs your passion and makes life less desultory.
